You are an efficient worker. Yet somehow, your bank account is always empty. Sounds familiar? It is the truth for so many of us. We spend our time cursing our luck - and our lethargy, perhaps? - but the money remains elusive. However, the reason might be completely different from what you think. More often than not, it is our own mental blocks that stop us from not earning enough. Don’t be afraid though. Today, you will know the five mental blocks that prevent us from earning more and how to crush them. Shall we begin?
Mental Block 1: You Should not Want Money
How many of us have grown up listening to this - don’t be greedy? Be happy with what you have. We believe that even talking about money is inappropriate and vulgar. While that is true, I would like to propose another aspect of it. Why should we spend our lives living paycheque to paycheque? Don’t we deserve enough money that lets us take care of ourselves and our family?
The answer, we definitely do. So, although you should not make money the only goal of your life, it should be important to you. Never shy away from wanting to earn more if it’s not hurting anyone else (except people who would like to pay you peanuts).
Mental Block 2: You Need to Work Harder
This is another advise we grow up listening to a lot. If we need success and money, we need to work hard. If you are not earning enough, it must be because you are lazy. The truth, however, is often different.
Most of the times, when you work hard for companies, they make you work harder - without the salary raise. Or maybe you are working hard on your business, but the strategy is wrong. Therefore, we need to change our thinking. Yes, a work ethic is essential, but it does not translate to 12-hour working shifts only. You need to focus on what results are you getting than how much time you are putting it into.
So, analyse your efforts, automate some task, change companies or strategies, and remember, it’s the lion that’s the king of the jungle, not the donkey.

Mental Block 3: You Don’t Have any Skillset
Another notion that goes around way too often is a lack of skillset. We keep on thinking we don’t have any skillset for which we can get paid. This belief stems from our lack of self-confidence and the discouraging environment around us. It could not be further from the truth.
There is not a single person on earth that does not have any skillset. We only need to explore ourselves, find those skills, and then work on monetising them. It sometimes can take us a while, but mostly, it’s quite easy. So, before you complain to God for lack of skills, let me assure you, you have one.
Mental Block 4: A Scarcity Mindset
Many a time we think we will never have money. Because that is our destiny. We keep telling ourselves that we can’t buy that course we would like to do, that book we would like to read, that outfit we want to buy. That is called a Scarcity Mindset.
In reality, you may not be able to afford it now. But you can work to achieve that. So, next time you think like that, express gratitude for the money you have. Furthermore, be confident that you can earn that much one day. All you need is a different mindset.
Mental Block 5: We Better Listen to the Boss
This is another common mental block we have. No matter what our bosses in our workplace say, that is the ultimate truth. And what do they say most of the time? You are not worthy of earning more. You are lucky to have this job. We, on the other hand, keep on thinking that if we let go of this job, we will never have another. We start believing they are right.
Let me tell you; it’s a blatant lie. They say it so that they can keep you at cheap and gain more profits. In fact, many public sector employees feel their pay is way too little. Do not fall into this trap. Believe in yourself that you are worthy enough to get paid more. Even if they lay you off, you are going to get another job pretty soon if you keep on trying. Listen to your heart, not to your boss.
Our mindset and beliefs shape our lives, including our income. If we want to earn according to our full potential, we need to remove these blocks. So, start working on your mindset today and see all the opportunities unfolding in front of you.
